Cloud Computing companies

The last two decades have seen a revolutionary advancement in technology, particularly in the IT segment. First generation computers were replaced by artificial intelligence systems, and desktop applications paved way for web applications. Cloud computing and enterprise resource planning applications are the latest buzz in information technology. Cloud computing and ERP applications enable companies to empower their IT operations while eliminating maintenance hassles. Today, Oracle is the key player in the cloud computing segment. It offers a pool of essential applications related to business intelligence and developer tools, called Oracle Fusion Middleware or OFM. Acquiring JD Edwards, a prominent ERP application, has leveraged Oracle’s cloud computing assets in a great way. However, JD Edwards customers are concerned about how Oracle will handle this application, moving forward.

JD Edwards ERP Application’s progression into Oracle Fusion

JD Edwards or JDE is a world-class enterprise resource planning IT Company, started in 1977. McVaney, Thompson and Gregory are the pioneers behind this revolutionary ERP application. Looking at the business requirements of their small and medium-sized business clients, the company has come up with a new product: JD Edwards OneWorld. This product aims at integrating business applications across several operations within an organization. The old server centric concept has transformed itself into an innovative configurable network computing model. With the introduction of this web-based application in 2001, the IT segment has entered into a new era of ERP and cloud computing. OneWorld was acquired by PeopleSoft in 2003, and again taken over by Oracle in 2005.

The future of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne

With Oracle acquiring JD Edwards and Peoplesoft, the IT industry is skeptical about the future of these two applications. Though the PeopleSoft brand got a retirement, Oracle kept JD Edwards alive, as it could not find the proper replacement of this ERP application within Oracle Fusion. After acquiring JD Edwards, the company announced that the support for this application would be continued for an indefinite period, offering an assurance for the JDE customers. The majority of JDE staff is retained too.

Oracle Fusion is an innovative and efficient move from Oracle. Oracle Fusion integrates multiple applications and offers a one-stop solution for the ERP needs of businesses. Though Oracle Fusion was available to an elite group in 2011, the company is expecting to roll out this product worldwide in 2012. The company is expecting to increase its customer base within 3 years.

Former customers of JD Edwards can still enjoy ERP services from the application. Though Oracle has not announced any dissolution plans, there is no guarantee that this brand will survive for an indefinite period. It is a wise move to make a slow and progressive transition to Oracle Fusion. With 2500 programmers working under an efficient management, Oracle Fusion definitely offers a one-stop solution for ERP operations of companies. As of now, there is no immediate threat for JDE, and the future seems bright.
